On December 10, 2022, sorrow and chaos swept through the Over-Rail community in Ihamufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, following a deadly invasion reportedly carried out by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.
The attack left dozens of families shattered, including the household of Mr. and Mrs. Chukwu Vincent, respected farmers who were raising nine children. Their sons, Emmanuel Chukwu and Oliva Chukwu, both family men, were said to have confronted the attackers while trying to protect their farmland and loved ones.
Community sources said Emmanuel Chukwu lost his life after being attacked with machetes, while Oliva Chukwu and his wife suffered multiple gunshot wounds as they tried to escape the violence.

Entire families, including the Nwafo, Nwankwo Chibuzo, and Ugonwachukwu families, were reportedly wiped out during the assault. Residents claimed that no fewer than 32 villagers were killed in the incident, with some bodies allegedly mutilated before burial at the local market square.
The attack forced many villagers to flee their homes in fear, while several women and children were reportedly taken away by the attackers.
Many people are still unaccounted for years later, including Nneka Chukwu Vincent, Chisom Achorom, Ugochukwu Onyeawusi, Chigozie Anih, Franklin Eze, Daniel Okpara, Nnenna Onu, and Chukwuma Ogbu, alongside several others whose families say have never returned.
Survivors and relatives continue to mourn the victims while calling for justice, security, and answers concerning those who remain missing.
