Reports indicate growing concern within the Oyigbo community following the suspected abduction of High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne by unidentified gunmen.

According to reliable sources, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, when the Nigeria Police Division in Oyigbo, Rivers State, received a distress call from one David Sabastine of No. 15 Nzeribe Street, Umusoya, Oyigbo. He reportedly informed authorities that armed men had invaded Oboma and abducted High Chief Obinwanne, who is said to be the uncle of the alleged original target of the attack, Mr. Kennedy Chinedu Obinwanne.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the kidnappers arrived at the Obinwanne family compound armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons. During the invasion, several members of the family sustained various injuries as the attackers forcefully took High Chief Obinwanne away.

Among those reportedly injured were Madu Obinwanne, Ngozi Obinwanne (his mother), and Mrs. Cecilia Uche. The victims were later transported to a private medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Police sources confirmed that investigations have begun and efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne.
